Biking Q & A
Q.  How do I participate in the Battlefield bike ride? A.  You can do this ride anytime during the three days of the convention, but there is a group ride on Thursday starting at 9:00 am.  If you are doing this group ride and are renting a bike that you have reserved, you must be on the bus at the hotel that leaves not later than 7:45 to arrive by 8:30.  This will allow time for adjustments to your bike.  You can also drive your own car.  Those folks that brought their own bike must drive themselves and their bike to the park.
Q.  How do I participate in the Schenectady bike ride?
A.  You can do this ride anytime during the three days of the convention.  There is no group ride but are encouraged to find other bikers at the convention to join you for more fun.  You will need to drive to the Start Point and bring your bike.  If you choose, you can also rent a bike from the adjacent kiosk as part of the CDPHP Bike Share Program.  For that, you will need to go to their website and download the app to your phone.  Cost about $5 per hour.  You can find out locations of other kiosks from the website should the Start Point kiosk be out of bikes.
Q.  How do I register for the bike ride(s)?
A.  You can register one of four ways for the Battlefield ride: On the Convention Website, registration table at the hotel, Hospitality table in the vendor area, or at Saratoga only, Stop #2 shortly into the group ride.  For the Schenectady ride: On the Convention Website, the registration table or Hospitality table in the vendor area at the hotel.
Q.  Where do I get the bike ride route instruction (cue) sheets?
A.  Route instructions (cue sheets) will be available at the Hospitality table following verification of registration.
Q.  Will the bike rides be conducted if it is raining??
A.  Both the Battlefield and Schenectady bike rides are available all three days should one of the days be raining.  For the group ride on Thursday at the Battlefield, if there is a light rain, we will likely proceed.  If an extended heavy rain or lightning, we would not conduct the bike ride, but you may choose to do the Battlefield walk that day vice the group ride if just rain.
Q.  There is a BBQ lunch after the Battlefield walk.  Are those doing the bike ride permitted to attend the lunch?
A.  Yes, you can attend, it is part of the Convention registration.  If you rode the bus to the Battlefield, a convention volunteer will drive you from the Visitor's Center at the Battlefield over to Ft. Hardy Park for the BBQ and then you will ride the bus back to the hotel.  If you drove yourself to the Battlefield, you would then drive to Ft. Hardy Park.  Those that took the bus to the Battlefield are encouraged to arrange a ride with another biker that drove their own car to minimize volunteer rides needed.
Q.  Who is the Point of Contact for the bike rides?
A. Harry Darling at harrydarling@verizon.net or day of the event at 518-275-6220 (cell).
Q: How do I rent a Bicycle?? Please call and ask to speak with Cody at Plaine & Son Bike, 518  346-1433 or email Cody at plaineandson@gmail.com
Cody will be able to answer questions concerning type of bike, sizes, payment, cost.
The bike shop will deliver and pickup all bikes.  You may reserve a bike up to two days before the group ride at the Battlefield.  The price for the bike is dependent on how many people rent a bike as the bike shop has to travel two hours round trip to provide this service.  The cost will be $50 per bike for less than ten rentals, $40 for 10 to 14 rentals, and $30 if there are 15 or more folks renting bikes.  At the Battlefield, you will receive your bike and the technician will adjust the bike for you.  You will pay a fee based on the number of rentals there were.  You can use a check or credit card and will have to sign a waiver.  The bike shop is delivering the bikes and will return them when the ride is over.

Make sure you take an early bus from the Red Lion Hotel to get to the Battlefield by 8:30 - it is a 50 minute ride.

Please request your bike for Thursday, June 13, 2019 from 8am-12:00pm.

AVA requires you to wear a helmet, if you are doing a sanctioned bike event.
Riders should bring their own helmets.
New York State does have a helmet wearing law for those under 15,
Bring a water bottle for hydration.
